The National Executive Board of the Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas (LnB), led by National President Jessica Dy, met with the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) Secretariat to seek support for the proposed adjustment to the term of barangay officials.

Now on its Second Reading in the House of Representatives, the measure seeks to extend the term of office of barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials. The Liga emphasized that the reform is a vital step in strengthening grassroots governance, giving local leaders sufficient time to implement long-term programs and deliver more sustainable services to their communities.

The LEDAC plays a central role in identifying priority measures to be advanced by the government. With this, the Liga expressed its hope that the barangay term adjustment will be included in the list of priority legislation.

“This is not just about extending terms — it’s about empowering barangay leaders to make lasting change without the disruption of overly short election cycles,” said Liga President Jessica Dy.

The Liga reiterated its commitment to working closely with both Congress and the Executive Branch to ensure the proposal’s passage. Once enacted, the measure is expected to strengthen continuity in governance and promote sustained development at the barangay level.
