Liga Extends Condolences and Burial Assistance to Families of Slain Barangay Officials

The Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas mourns the tragic loss of dedicated public servants who recently fell victim to senseless violence. With heavy hearts, the Liga extends its deepest condolences and has provided burial assistance to the grieving families of the following officials from Dasmariñas, Cavite:
• Kap. Raul Atarde Ballos – Barangay Salitran 3
• Kag. Marvin Cañete – Barangay Salitran 3
• Kag. Jose Lagones – Barangay Salitran 3
The Liga likewise conveys its sympathy and assistance to the family of the late Kap. Dirk Jaro, Barangay Captain of Binalayan East, Maripipi, Biliran, who also served as ABC President in his municipality.
These tragic incidents underscore the dangers faced by barangay leaders in carrying out their duties as frontline guardians of peace, order, and community welfare. The Liga strongly condemns the continued violence against barangay officials, stressing that such acts not only bring immeasurable pain to their families but also weaken the very foundations of local governance and democracy.
Liga President Jessica Dy reiterated the organization’s commitment to stand with barangay leaders nationwide, ensuring that their welfare, safety, and dignity are upheld: “Ang ating mga kapitan at kagawad ay haligi ng pamahalaang lokal. Hindi natin papayagan na ang takot at karahasan ang mangibabaw sa kanilang paglilingkod.”
The Liga remains steadfast in its mission to provide strength and protection to barangay officials so they may continue serving their constituents without fear, intimidation, or harm.
